Beaver Island Fishing Guides

Beaver Island is a popular summer vacation destination, so add in a world-class fishery, and you have something quite extraordinary. Beaver Island is located in the northeast corner of Lake Michigan, and it’s not just one island but a collection or archipelago of islands with Beaver being the largest. Beaver Island is remote, requiring a 2-hour ferry ride or a 20-minute flight to the island.

The Beaver Islands have over 300 miles of diverse shoreline, most of it is pristine and undeveloped. There are miles and miles of flats with the clearest water you’ve ever seen. On a cloudless day, you can see fish over a hundred yards away.

Most people visit Beaver Island to catch a carp on the fly. However, the islands also have an excellent smallmouth bass and northern pike fishery, with excellent trophy potential with each. On any given day, you have the chance at a forty-pound carp, forty-inch pike, or five-pound smallmouth.

Another great thing about the Beaver Islands fishery is the diversity, with so many miles of shoreline, no two days are ever the same. Evidence of this fact is that return customers account for over 80%  of our bookings each year. This is not a fishery you become bored with.

Where To Stay: We have many guests enjoy both the Fisherman’s House and Dalwhinnie Appartments each year, both are perfectly located. (https://www.mcdonoughsmarket.com/our-rentals/)

There is a full list of additional places to stay over at the Beaver Island Chamber of Commerce web site https://www.beaverisland.org/hotels-motels-lodges-bbs/

Getting to the Island: For most people they are either going to have to take the 2 hour ferry ride or a quick 20 minute flight. Below is a link to the Beaver Island Chamber of Commerce site that has all of the information you’ll need. https://www.beaverisland.org/transportation/

Michigan Fishing License: You’ll need a valid Michigan fishing license, here is the link to purchase a license on-line, https://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,4570,7-350-79119_79146_82448---,00.html

Group Trips: There are only two of us on Beaver Island, so we can only take four customers on the water at a time. Larger groups can work if people don’t mind alternating fishing days.
