The village of Baldwin, Michigan in Lake County is known for being at the heart of possibly the best cold water fishing in the Great Lakes.  The legendary Flies Only section of the Pere Marquette River (PM) that starts at the M 37 landing, runs through the confluence with the Baldwin River (Baldwin Creek), onto the Green's Cottage area and ending at Gleason's Landing.

This Flies Only section of the Pere Marquette is widely considered to be the greatest cold water fishing in the region, boasting a wild population of resident brown and rainbow trout and migratory king salmon, coho salmon, steelhead and brown trout.  Again, this is an almost entirely wild and self-sustaining population.  The area of river near Baldwin contains the highest density of spawning gravel, in the spring and fall it is thick with steelhead and salmon on their beds (redds).

Baldwin has several well stocked fly shops, a variety of restaurants and many clean places to stay, most of these businesses are located on State Highway M-37.
