West Michigan Fishing Report for November 30th, 2009

Click here for a good looking single page pdf version of this west Michigan guide report… perfect for a counter top or bulletin board.

For a more detailed report on the Pere Marquette River visit Pere Marquette River Fishing Report site.  The latest update is "Streamer Fishing for Steelhead on the PM River is OK" it was updated on November 21st, 2009.

Pere Marquette River
Temps – low 40’s          Water Conditions – perfect
>>>The steelhead fishing was on a steady downslide until the nice rain around Thanksgiving.  The river got pretty dirty for a day or so but is now perfect.  A scouting trip to the lower river proved that a fresh batch of fish are on the way up.  Kevin Morlock

Big Manistee River
Temps – 43          Water Conditions – a bit high with color
>>>Consistent numbers of steelehad and lake run browns are being caught.  It looks like the rain has supplied the Manistee River with some fresh steelhead.

Muskegon River
Temps – 44          Water Conditions – slight stain, average level
>>>Recent high water has brought decent numbers of steelhead in the river.  Trout are beginning to put the fall feedbag on!  Try nymphing in and down from riffles as well as streamer fishing.  Phil Cusey

A couple of the fresh Pere Marquette steelhead from this morning.  Both of these took a Grau’s Tracer Bullet… a giant nuke egg (1 1/2 – 2 inches) tied on a tube.  I’ll put a better picture of a Grau’s Tracer Bullet on the flies page this week.

Mystery Fish.  This fish took a 4 inch streamer and weighted about 5 pounds, caught in the PM River this morning.  The first person to email me the correct species wins a free guided trip!   <<< FREE GUIDED TRIP >>>

Martinez’s Muddler (a Muddler Minnow variation) by Steve Martinez

This pattern is a variation of the famous and widely used Muddler Minnow.  While maintaining the classic deer hair head, Steve feels that this variation has improved action in the tail, giving it a livelier appearance.

Note:  At Indigo we draw a line in the sand and will never take credit for another tiers creative work.  Though we do think that it is fair and important to show variations when we think they perform better in our waters.

Best For… trout and steelhead            Could Also Be Used For… pike, salmon and bass

 ***Materials listed in tying order

Hook… Tiemco, TMC 200R, size 4-6

Tail… olive deer tail

Body… cream antron yarn

Tinsel… 2 strands of gold

Under Wing… small olive barred marabou

Over Wing… long grouse hackle feather

Head… olive deer body hair
